About Michael Holland
Michael Holland, a freelance nature educator and author, has been passionate about plants since he was eight years old. Inspired by ‘The Pip Book’ by Keith Mossman, he began growing plants in his airing cupboard, and his love for them only grew from there.
After studying Ecology at Lancaster and Oregon State Universities, he spent 25 years at Chelsea Physic Garden in London where he became the Head of Education. During his time there, he taught people of all ages about the natural world, helping them to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for plants.
He recently joined the Education Committee of the RHS and continues to share his passion for plants and their importance in our lives.
His first book, ‘I Ate Sunshine for Breakfast’, highlights the crucial role that plants play in our diets and overall health and won the Garden Media Guild’s ‘Best Gardening Book Award’ in 2020. He has also written ‘Jungle in Your Living Room’, which focuses on indoor gardening, and ‘Smart Animals’, which explores the intelligence of animals. Michael’s work encourages us to appreciate and learn from the natural world around us.
