A Walk in the Mole Valley – Box Hill to Leatherhead

Roy will be leading this walk discovering small teasel, Dipsacus pilosus, and greater dodder, Cuscuta europaea, also juniper, Juniperus communis, in one of its few Surrey localities, a small patch of downland flora, devastation caused by ash-dieback, Hymenoscyphus fraxineus and a commercial elder, Sambucus nigra, plantation’.
Meet at Box Hill & Westhumble station at 11.15, or following the arrival of the 10.24 from Waterloo, expected at 11.11. Some rough terrain. Appropriate dress and a hand lens if you have one.
Expected arrival back in Leatherhead by 5.30 (four trains an hour from Leatherhead back to London, though not evenly spaced)
Roy is a renowned botanist specialising in plant-lore and also president of the SLBI, as well as the author of Vickery’s Folk Flora.
Roy will not be wearing a mask for audio reasons i.e. so that he can be heard, but will be happy to should any participant prefer him to.
