Discovering Chalkland Flora on Warren Farm
Saturday, 29th July 2023, 13:30 - 15:30
Warren Farm is a conservation success story. Over 30 years ago, the site was originally held in reserve by the London Education Authority for use as four sportsgrounds. It was then sold on to a developer who wanted to fill it with houses. This was defeated by the planners and it was given to the Woodland Trust for use as an open access site on chalk soil.
It continues to develop some interesting flora with several orchids and other chalkland plants for example yellow rattle, kidney vetch and greater knapweed. Please bring a hand lens if you have one.
Dr June Chatfield OBE will be leading this walk. June is the author of How to begin the study of Mosses and Liverworts. She has had a lifelong interest in moss and liverworts with a career as a college lecturer, museum curator, author and consultant. June has been made an OBE for services to conservation and natural history education.
Refreshments are available at the Mansion House Café both before and after the walk.
Please meet at 1.30pm at the car park at Cheam Gate Car Park, Nonsuch Park (adjacent to Nonsuch High School). It is a 15 minute walk to the Warren Farm site.
