Lots to do in Zoe’s workshop in the South London Botanical Garden:
Learn about the special qualities of this unique plant, and see it growing in the SLBI garden.
Press a madder plant – Rubia tinctorum – in preparation for the specimen to be added to the herbarium collection at SLBI.
Prepare a dye bath and explore the many colours that can be produced from this root dye bath on a selection of small fabric swatches.
Create your own colour card and draw mindfully in the garden with ink made from madder.
Please note numbers are limited to 8 for safe working in the garden. Please bring your own mask, apron and gloves and a pen and sketchpad/notepad. All others materials provided.
Feel free to bring a flask of tea/coffee/water and snack for refreshment as the kitchen will not be open at this time. Early booking recommended.
