Botany on Your Plate - our project funded by City Bridge Trust
School Visits & Families
Whilst our school visits are currently on hold due to COVID-19, please see our online resources on this page to use in school or at home. You can also book an online session or actual summer term visit!
Usually…we offer plant and outdoor education with a difference in a unique setting right on your school’s doorstep.
We have a range of inspirational school programmes to match the requirements of the curriculum for all key stages, or we can create tailor made sessions.
School Visits & Families
Please note that our school visits are currently on hold due to the COVID-19 crisis, but we are now taking bookings for the summer term – see form below. If you are interested in an online workshop via Zoom, or an outreach activity at your school or in a green space local to you, please get in touch and we will do the best we can to accommodate you.
We continue to run school holiday activities for families, in our garden or online, as permitted – see our Eventspage. Our next event will be during the Easter holidays, hopefully in the SLBI garden.
We also continue to develop online activity sheets & videos for parents & teachers to use with their children, on the topics of our curriculum-related programmes. These include a new series of resources for our ‘Botany on Your Plate’ project, about food plants, funded by City Bridge Trust (see below).
These resources are free of charge, but we are obviously losing income at the moment while the SLBI is closed, so please use the Donate button on this page to support us if you can – thank you.
Information for when school visits start again – hopefully April 2021
We offer plant and outdoor education with a difference in a unique setting right on your school’s doorstep.
We have a range of inspirational programmes to match the requirements of the national curriculum for key stages 1 and 2 – please see ‘Our Programmes’ – or we can create tailor made sessions for your class.
All our sessions are interactive and hands-on, encouraging and enthusing children to explore plants by working scientifically, in addition to a variety of creative and playful activities. We run 2 hour sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and take school groups of up to 30 children at a time (subject to Covid regulations – please check nearer the time). Fee: £120 per group inclusive of booking and admin fees (with a limited number of free places on ‘Botany on Your Plate’ programmes – for which donations are always welcome!).
Lunches: Due to the setting and available space, we recommend a packed lunch be taken in nearby Brockwell Park, either on the way to or from the Institute. However in some cases due to weather, timings etc. we can accommodate up to 30 children with their packed lunches in the lecture room at a pre-booked rate of £1 per child (refundable if not necessary on the day).
Cancellations: Any bookings cancelled less than 2 weeks prior to the visit date will be charged at the full price.
Please note, you are not guaranteed a booking until we have received the completed booking form.
We are grateful to City Bridge Trust and Postcode Local Trust for their support of our work with schools.
