We kicked off our new season of Autumn events last Saturday 10 October with our very first ‘Botanical Bake Off’! Inspired by the Great British Bake Off, entrants of all ages got creative using botanical ingredients, flowers and flower pots!
These were the 3 winning bakes:
Visitors enjoyed judging the cakes with a cup of tea, as well as looking at ‘cake botany’ under microscopes:
The Botanical Bake Off was the first of a whole range of events we’ve got coming up at the SLBI in the next few months. As well as the Big Botanical Draw next Sunday 25 October, there are workshops on aromatherapy, botany for gardeners and ‘Plants that Changed the World’, talks on climate change and plant hunting in Turkey, craft activities for children and one of the highlights this season, London’s first showing of ‘The Fox Got You’. This exhibition celebrates six common plants (including Foxglove and Yew) at the origin of major medicinal drugs, bringing together the plants, drugs, clinicians, patients and scientists.
