Support us
Donate to the SLBI
As a small charity we depend on the generosity of those that share our belief in the importance of studying plants. Financial donations help us to add new books to the library, buy microscopes for public use, host school visits, put on events, fund the upkeep of the garden, and preserve our collections for everyone to enjoy. In short, your donations help to keep this special place thriving.
Any donation, large or small, regular or one-off, will make a unique difference to the SLBI. Your donation will be carefully managed and channelled towards whatever is most urgent and important at the time.
Taking part in a fundraising event for the SLBI is a fun way to make a difference and will help inspire more people to learn about plants. An event could be anything from a sponsored wildflower walk, a tea party with friends, or even running a marathon. Whether you want to achieve a life-long ambition or simply support a good cause, it’s easy to start raising funds. A simple way to begin is to set up a fundraising page on JustGiving and ask your friends and family to support your challenge. Search for ‘South London Botanical Institute’ on the JustGiving website, and let us know about your fundraiser so that we can support you! You can also download a paper sponsorship form here.
Giving in memory
Giving in memory of someone is a very special way to commemorate their life. If you’re thinking of making a donation, thank you. Your gift will help us to fund the work of the Institute, while honouring your loved one’s connection to plants.
How to donate in memory:
Online. Please use our online donation form and email our Administrator to let us know that your donation is being made in memory. [email protected]
By post. Please send a cheque to Administrator, South London Botanical Institute, 323 Norwood Road, London, SE24 9AQ
To discuss giving in memory – be it a donation, a funeral collection or something else – please get in touch.
Leave a gift in your will
Gifts made in wills are one of the most meaningful ways to have an impact beyond our lifetimes.
If you’ve been touched by the work of the SLBI, please consider remembering us in your will. Past legacies have helped maintain the Institute during troubled times, as well as helping to fund important renovation work. They continue to be a crucial means of safeguarding the Institute and the future of botanical education in South London.
You can leave as much or as little as you wish (as little as 1%) safe in the knowledge that a gift of any size will be gratefully received and carefully honoured through our work. If you are creating or updating your will your solicitor will need our charity name and number: South London Botanical Institute. Charity number 214251.
Please contact us and ask to speak to our Administrator, Nell Gatehouse, if you’d like more information or to discuss your wishes with us. You can also download or order a printed copy of our information pack on leaving a gift to the SLBI.
Our members come from all walks of life; ranging from amateur and professional botanists, to gardeners, artists, students, local residents, photographers, ecologists, writers, campaigners; and anyone else with an urge to learn more about the plant kingdom. Become an SLBI member from just £25 per year and enjoy a wide range of benefits. You could also buy a Gift Membership!
We’re always looking for volunteers to help with our herbarium, library, garden, school visits, and open day events (though opportunities are limited until our building reopens). Find out more on our Get Involved page.
