WELCOME to the SLBI website

The Institute provides facilities for the study of plants including ecology and conservation, and aims to encourage interest in all aspects of plant life.

Since its inception in 1910, the Institute has enabled many to develop a satisfying and absorbing interest, become better botanists, pursue their own studies, share their knowledge with like-minded individuals and contribute to our natural heritage.

Opening Times:
Thursdays 10am - 4pm
Other times by appointment
Closed in August

Education:  The SLBI has begun an exciting programme of structured educational workshops, sharing our passion for plants and historic environment with primary and secondary schools.   Thanks to generous funding from the Sir Walter St John Trust, visits are free to groups from Lambeth and Wandsworth.  Visits last half a day and will help classes to explore their curriculum needs plants, science, literacy and arts.   Click here, or email us, for more details and booking SLBI education leaflet and form
